Fear not Ravens fans, for Ed Reed will show up to training camp and play out the rest of his $7 million contract.

An unnamed family member told CBSSports.com’s Jason LaCanfora that Reed wouldn’t hold out for a new deal.  “He told me he isn’t going to hold out. He speaks his mind about some things, gets some things off his chest, but he’s never said he is going to hold out. He’ll show up when he has to be there and he’ll play out his contract.”

I never doubted that Reed would walk away and retire, but wouldn’t have been surprised if he held out.  This news is reassuring, I suppose.

“They want to say it’s about money, but it’s about more than that. I speak up, because there are a lot of guys in this league who can’t,” Reed said.  “I fight for the little guy. This isn’t just about me. The things I talk about don’t just apply to me.”

LaCanfora points out in his piece that Reed “feels underappreciated by the team at times” and said he felt betrayed when some teammates weighted in on his contract dealing with the Ravens.
