Cal Ripken, JR. was at Tropicana Field on August 27 to throw out the first pitch after Ripken Baseball announced purchasing a Single-A minor league team that will be affiliated with the Rays in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Baltimore’s Iron Man played with Orioles for 20 years and owns an Orioles’ Single-A affiliate, the Aberdeen Iron Birds.
During the 2007 ALCS Orioles first baseman Kevin Millar threw out the ceremonial first pitch in street clothes for a Boston Red Sox’s game at Fenway Park and even though Millar received permission from the Orioles organization fans became very upset at Millar.
Millar said that he turned down wearing a Red Sox jersey but that it was inappropriate.
