Much like Bruce Dickerson seeking more cowbell, groups of Orioles fans are been asking for more Nolan Reimold since his breakout season in 2009.
Personally, I’ve never understood the obsession. Reimold hit .279 in his rookie season three years ago, but has struggled to show any consistency at the plate. 2010 was disastrous, he hit .207 in 39 games spending the majority of his days with the Tides in Norfolk. Last season, Reimold hit just .247 with 13 home runs and 45 RBI in 87 games in the bigs.
MLB Network’s 30 teams in 30 days featured the Orioles yesterday and Reimold is the slated as the O’s leadoff hitter while Brian Roberts continues to remain on the shelf. If this spring is any indication, Reimold likely won’t be the breakout player that fans are hoping he can become. He hit just .179 in 56 at bats this spring, driving in just 2 runs on his two home runs.
MASNSports.com’s Roch Kubatko listed Nolan as one of his three biggest disappointments this Spring.
Just goes to show you ‘baseball is dead in Baltimore’………….
Damn, when was the last positive thing that you had to say? Negative, negative, negative…What country do you spy for, us or them? If us, we should get you a Russian girlfriend, if for them, maybe we can take you down to Gail’s and get you laid or something!
I like Gail’s,,,,,spent plenty of time there many years ago………..I just don’t see anything positive around Peter the Great and baseball here in Baltimore,,,,,,,,,sorry but that is what I see nail , I remember when this city was vibrant with O’s baseball and it breaks my heart to see the O’s have self destructed under this owner,,,,,,,,not my fault man…………
Did 2011 spring show us that Hardy and Reynolds were going to hit 30+ homers during the 2011 season? Give the kid a break.
Spring is no “indication” for how these players will play come the season starting. This is a time for getting the rust off and getting back into baseball shape. Besides, the only numbers that should concern a leadoff hitter is the batting average or on-base percentage. Everything else will come after that such as the runs as long as the hitters behind him can move him around the bases. RBI’s don’t mean anything to a leadoff hitter.
@ ThePlan: Yeah ST isnt really an indication of how these players will perform in the regular season. Some hitters might be trying new mechanics, some pitchers might be trying new pitches. but when a rule 5 pick who hit .232 with 10 RBIs outhit Reimold that isnt really a good sign. Hitting .179 in ST is pretty bad! I hope he has a great season though, as I liked him when he came up as a rookie.
Reimold must have something on someone in the Orioles clubhouse. My guess is that when Gerry Sandusky visisted the Oriole clubhouse and Reimold went missing for an hour and…..
Nolan should come up with some reason to NOT play again this year. Every year he’s this mysterious legend who captured the fans imagination based on a 3 or 4 month run that has fans believing (or hoping) that he is the next Paul O’Neil.
Nolan is just one more example of why baseball is dead in Baltimore , we deserve better………….
Nolan Reimold is gonna lead off for the Orioles.
I mean, there isn’t much more to say is there?
