He’s won and Gold Glove and appeared in a All-Star game, but still the Orioles 25 year old centerfielder, Adam Jones, is looking for his first big contract. This season Jones is hitting .289 with 5 home runs and 24 RBI. He’s a threat on the base path and has six outfield assists in center this season.
Jones remains in the Orioles control through 2013, but all signs point to a long term deal with the Orioles sooner rather than later. MASN’s Amber Theoharis reports that Orioles President of Baseball Operations, Andy MacPhail, has already discussed a longterm deal with Jones’ agent.
“We actually, in Adam’s case, had a brief conversation with Casey Close of CAA at the last winter meetings and talked about, you know, we’d be interested in talking about it in the following parameters,” MacPhail said. “But I think they felt like Adam was still on the ascent and wanted him to play and further establish himself, and they may very well be right.”
When do you think the O’s will lock up Jones?
I feel Adam Jones’ extension is due to come at the end of the season. If he keeps up his .290 average and his fielding abilities, he should be receiving some big check from the Orioles. KEEP ADAM JONES FOR THE FUTURE!
I always have loved the kid. Never understood the criticism of him, particulary when you look around the club and see what some of the others have doing. He’s going to hit .280 or so, 20-25 homers, and play a a nice centerfield. That’s all I want outta my team’s centerfielder.
wait till end of year
All depends on the terms of the deal…O’s haven’t had much look on long-term, $10,000,000+ deals with Roberts or Markakis…I’d hate to see them flush another $50,000,000 down the drain…In three full seasons, he’s yet to hit 20 HRs and won’t again this year…He’s yet to steal more than 10 bases (has a shot to beat that by a little in 2011)…Has yet to have more than 25 doubles…Yet to have more than 70 RBIs…Sorry, friends, but AJ is NOT a $10,000,000 a year player…
