If you’ve ever had the itch to own an authentic Cy Young Award, Jim Palmer is about to make your dreams come true. The Hall of Famer announced that he will be auctioning all three of his Cy Youngs and two of his four Gold Gloves.

I know what you’re thinking — I thought it too — but Palmer assures Orioles fans in the AP’s report that he isn’t broke, but is simply looking to provide for his family for years to come.

“At this juncture of my life, I would rather concern myself with the education of my grandchildren,” Palmer said. “I also have a stepson (15-year-old) Spencer, who is autistic and will need special care for the rest of his life. My priorities have changed.”

Still, I can’t help but feel bad for the guy. He’s my all-time favorite Oriole. Even knowing that Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams sold their hardware doesn’t ease my sympathy.

If you’re looking to buy one of Palmer’s Cy Youngs, they’re expected to go for between $60,000 and $80,000. His Gold Gloves are expected to bring in up to $15,000.
