For the third consecutive week, the Ravens struggled to establish their running game. With Ray Rice sidelined with a hip injury, Bernard Pierce was Baltimore’s primary back. He rushed for just 65 yards on 24 carries against the Houston Texans.
Despite the Ravens scoring 30 points on Sunday, their offense only reached the end zone once. Their other two touchdowns came from a Daryl Smith interception returned for a touchdown and Tandon Doss 82-yard punt return TD.
The Ravens have averaged just 77.3 rushing yards per game this season, 25th in the NFL.
Despite these sour notes on the run game, one of my favorite moments from Sunday was when Bernard pierce hurdled Texans safety Ed Reed. The former Raven hasn’t been able to tackle well over the past few seasons and was hurdled over by Knowshon Morena last season.

Unfortunately, Pierce’s momentum carried him out of bounds, otherwise it would have been an awesome play.

Still believe that at the end of the day, Pierce could be just as valuable as Rice is with the rock. Pierce has a bit more size, which I think works better in short yardage sitautions. Rice is still probably the better receiver.
