Cleveland Browns wide receiver Davone Bess took Lardarius Webb to school with a nasty juke on the ten yard line that led him to the end zone. Bess’s touchdown gave Cleveland an early 14-3 lead over the Baltimore Ravens in the second quarter.

Webb was one of many overpaid Ravens to underperform on Sunday. As Tony Lombardi of RussellStreetReport.com points out, a big chunk of of the team’s payroll is taken up by high-paid letdown stars.
In 2014 four severely underachieving players will take up approximately 35% of the club’s salary cap (assuming a bump in team cap space to $125M in 2014). Haloti Ngata ($16M), Lardarius Webb ($10.5M), Ray Rice ($8.75M) and Marshal Yanda ($8.45M) are far from the players they once were if this season is any indication.
To be fair, Webb is still recovering from ACL surgery but his propensity for injury clearly calls into question the potential dividends from his contract. How many of you thought he blew his ACL again when Davone Bess left him holding his jock around the 10-yard line yesterday?
It seems like we’re always using Webb’s health as a reason behind his disappointments. He’s proven he’s a good player in small sample sizes, but at what point do we start to put a Nolan Reimold-type label on the guy?
