Assistant Captain Mike Green was able to draft teammate Akex Ovechkin third overall in the NHL Fantasy Draft on Saturday night. Green, drafting for Team Staal, made the announcement when his team took Ovie in the second round.
Capitals Insider in The Washington Post had quotes from Green after the draft.
“I told him I would lobby for him. I didn’t know exactly how it was going to work out, but I didn’t have to push too hard,” said Green, who added that his team picked for the game but the skills competition as well. Green also suggested that Team Staal pick up Zdeno Chara specifically to help out Saturday night in the hardest shot competition.
Ovechkin was drafted behind Eric Staal’s teammate in Carolina, goalkeeper Cam Ward.
