Baseball is a funny game isn’t it?

O’s starter David Hernandez was given a six run lead after four innings and he shined in his second career win against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

The rookie allowed three runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. Hernandez has only had four starts in the majors, two since Koji Uehara went down, but with a 2-2 record he has decisions in all four starts.

He struck out two and walked two while allowing an RBI double to Maicer Izturis and a two run homerun to Kendry Morales.

Hats off the Birds’ offense for giving the kid some love via run support. Luke Scott drove in two in the first inning with an RBI double, then Aubrey Huff hit a three run homer in the third to give the O’s a 5-0 lead.

In the fourth inning Nick Markakis hit a deep single to center field that drove in Brian Roberts. B-Rob had to juke to catcher and slid into home past Jeff Mathis while stretching to touch home plate for Baltimore’s sixth run of the night.

Jim Johnson came in in to work the seventh and eighth and had a few issues with his command. Johnson appeared to have difficulty locating pitches much like he did in the final game of the Boston series. JJ gave up one run off a ground out by Vlad Guerrero.

Then George Sherrill made an appearance in the ninth inning and did his thang. Flat Breezy earned his 18th save giving up just one hit.

Happy 4th of July!
