Another Spring Training start resulted in yet another increase in Jeremy Guthrie‘s ERA. Yesterday the Orioles’ ace pitched in Fort Lauderdale against the Florida Marlins and allowed 8 earned runs in the O’s 13-2 loss.
Guthrie pitched 4 innings allowing 10 hits, a walk, and homerun. His spring ERA is 10.57.

The Birds‘ ace has really been hit around this spring and is a guy that finished 2008 with a 3.63 ERA.
Something must be wrong, right? Is Jeremy Guthrie hurt?
Orioles’ pitching coach Rick Kranitz doesn’t think so. In an entry by Roch Kubatko, Kranitz stated that “he feels like he’s healthy, and if he’s healthy, I’m happy with that.”
“He feels ready. He’s not concerned about it. I’m not concerned about it, either. We’ll move on,” Kranitz said.
Are the Orioles covering up a horrible pitching situation? Is Guthrie actually hurt? How do you explain his terrible spring?
I guess we will find out when he takes the hill at Camden Yards on April 6th to face off against the Yankees on opening day.
