ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark reports that the Orioles have shifted their attention away from Matt Garza and are now “poking around on Jason Vargas.”
With a full season remaining on Garza’s current contract, it’s likely that Theo Epstein’s asking price is just a tad too high for the O’s. Although I’m not sure that Vargas is the next best thing.
HardballTalk.com’s Matthew Pouliot points out that outside of Safeco Field, one of the most friendly pitcher’s ballparks in baseball, Vargas has a 5.09 ERA this season and has allowed 17 home runs in 69 innings pitched. In fact, Vargas leads all of baseball with 23 homers surrendered and his road total alone would ranked tied for fifth.
Vargas is 2-11 with a 5.01 ERA against Baltimore’s AL East opponents.
Don’t the Orioles already have guys that give up too many home runs to the Yankees and Red Sox?
F- Vargas, we need him like Spy needs a nother hemmorhoid…
I’ve never had a hemmorhoid,,,,,,,,,but I hear they are a pain in the aSS , JUST LIKE YOU , AT TIMES…………
