David Ortiz was tossed from Sunday’s game after arguing a checked swing call in the fifth inning. Ortiz bumped home plate umpire Paul Emmel and tossed his equipment on his way down the locker room.
Hall of Famer and Orioles broadcaster Jim Palmer watched Ortiz’s eruption and tweeted that he thought the ejection was deserved. He also used some cool hashtags.
FINALLY Ortiz gets tossed #disrespectful #zipitOrtiz @Orioles @masnOrioles

As you’d expect, Palmer received a bunch of responses for his hot takes.

@hapstweet @Dan_Shaughnessy It wasn't about the swing it was about the tantrum and disrespect

@adamsconnolly No it's not alright
— Jim Palmer (@Jim22Palmer) April 19, 2015
@adamsconnolly it happens but rarely because it would cause a shrinking strike zone Not hating on Ortiz just the tantrum #checkthetantrum

@jeffreyfarny @Dan_Shaughnessy @Orioles @masnOrioles A lot of "show" with Earl but Ortiz threw his team under the bus #becool

I’ve always enjoyed Palmer’s strong opinions on TV and it’s great to see he doesn’t back away from them on Twitter.

If this is behavior that has only been a recent trend it can be just a little bit tolerated. However in the case of David Ortiz there is a long record of history with the very same behavior in many cases. Most memorable during a nationally televised game to the entire country back in June, 2011. In his 2nd at bat Mr. Ortiz disrespectfully pointed to his happy zone in the strike zone to the Orioles pitcher. Before his 3rd at bat the Orioles made a pitching change and it was Kevin Gregg. Gregg wasted no time at all giving Ortiz chin music and then Ortiz charged the pitchers mound and all the benched cleared. Buck Showalter got a suspension over the incident but the Orioles remembered in September and eliminated the Red Sox from reaching the playoffs with the “Andino Curse”. Sweet revenge! The Orioles have been contenders and respected ever since.
Jim Palmer is just trying to ride David’s shirt tales cause no one remembers him anyway. Jim Palmer whooooooo
Hahaha. Hilarious.
HA – how laughable Ann. I’ll give you an analogy. If no one remembers Jim Palmer then no one remembers Curt Schilling. Jim Palmer – best Orioles pitcher of all time and a top 25 major league pitcher of all time. Never gave up a grand slam in his entire hall of fame career. 3 time World Champion.
