The wildcat is back! Aren’t you excited?
No? Well, neither is Joe Flacco.
“I don’t want to be lining up at the Z and X,” Flacco told the media after the Ravens 19-3 win over the New York Jets. “I want to line up behind center.”
On the field, Flacco made it pretty clear that he wasn’t excited for the wildcat formations. He lined up with his hands in his front pouch and hardly moved when the ball was snapped to Tyrod Taylor.
“It’s good and fun for a little bit, but that’s about it,” Flacco said smiling.
Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com writes that Taylor was behind center for five of the Ravens 62 plays on Sunday. The backup QB rushed for seven yards on four carries and failed to complete his lone pass attempt.
I’m having a tough time deciding whether I agree or disagree with Flacco. One on hand, the Ravens are paying him $120.6 million to be their quarterback, not be a decoy for fancy offensive formations. On the other hand, these formations did seem to add a bit of flare to an otherwise dull offense.
I think that the Wildcat formation did do some good things, but let’s not try to pretend like nothing bad happened while the Ravens were in it. I’m fine with the Wildcat formation happening a few times a game, but not to an excess like it was used yesterday.
Yeah, that Joe, he’s a team player… Way to help the team Joe! Flacco lined up with his hands in his front pouch and hardly moved when the ball was snapped to Tyrod Taylor. And your supposed to be a self proclaimed “Elite” player?? Oh yeah, and you think your a “Leader” as well! Your a freaking joke!
Maybe Joe, if you were producing better than what you are the Ravens wouldn’t have to go to the
“Wildcat”. And you wouldn’t basically tell the other team with your actions that you are throwing Taylor under the bus and giving up the play.
I think Ray Lewis was right when he talked about no leadership in the locker room because no leader would have done what Flacco did. And, if there was a leader, they would have said something to Flacco.
Raven fans are starting to see Flacco is a piece of garbage.
Let’s debunk this myth that the Wildcat was something terrific once and for all. Taylor only gained seven yards on four carries. He did have one great run, but he almost completely negated it with two really bad carries. He didn’t complete his only pass attempt.
I’m in favor of seeing the Wildcat a few times a game. It can catch defenses off guard and I think it could add something to the offense. But ten times? Heck no.
And if I see Flacco line up as a wideout again, you might hear about what I do on CNN.
Seems like the Ravens brass is spending too much time listening to the talk shows.
Fans have been clamoring all season long about getting Tyrod in there.
No, I just think that they slightly overdid it. I think the Wildcat, if used at the right time, could be an effective formation for the Ravens. Perhaps try it in the red zone?
