Joe Saunders tripped out of the gate upon his arrival in Baltimore. The lefty earned a loss after allowing six earned runs in 5 1/3 innings against the White Sox in his Orioles debut on August 29.
Despite the small sample size, some experts had already written him off.
In four starts in September, Saunders has recorded a 2.10 ERA and silenced the doubters.
After the Orioles bullpen worked 12 2/3 innings on Tuesday night, Saunders followed with eight innings of one-run ball matching Mariners ace Felix Hernandez. The Orioles still had to use five pitchers after him, but hey, it’s not his fault they waited until the eleventh to score more than one run.
Personally, I’m shocked that Joe Saunders wasn’t the answer to Baltimore’s rotation problems

Against Toronto, New York, Oakland and now Seattle, Saunders has gone 2-1 and allowed just six earned runs. He’s been exactly what Dan Duquette and the Orioles hoped they were getting.
It was the 11th… but who’s counting… we won!
I could not help myself. Time for Mr. Law to enjoy some humble pie. https://twitter.com/Cliff_Forster/status/248841988357623810
Law is an idiot.
His response is “look who he’s faced”
Let’s see…the Yankees, the A’s…neither of these teams is fighting for a playoff spot?!?!
The Blue Jays…while never to be confused with the ’27 Yankees, the Jays have some sticks in their lineup.
Law is starting to remind me of “Stat Boy”. He’s wrong. He was wrong about the Orioles, he was wrong about Saunders. He’ll never concede, though.
I’m beginning to think anyone DD brings in will work. I’m just waiting for my phone call!
