Jonathan Schoop - Baltimore Orioles second baseman

Orioles’ second baseman Jonathan Schoop is headed to the 15-day DL with a partial PCL tear and sprained MCL, per Roch Kubatko.

Schoop will be heading down to Sarasota for rehab, no surgery needed yet. Six to eight weeks minimum for recovery. Orioles have activated infielder Jimmy Paredes off of the DL to take his roster spot.

“I know more than I’m going to talk about here as far as worst-case scenario but we feel confident he’ll be back this season.” said Manager Buck Showalter.

Schoop absorbed a hard slide from Pablo Sandoval and tripped over first baseman Mike Napoli’s leg during the O’s 3-2 loss to the Red Sox last night. Showalter say the cause of the injury was from him tripping.

Schoop was hitting .259 with three home runs and seven RBIs so far this season with the Orioles, showing some real promise. Ryan Flaherty will more than likely pick up the majority of second base starts until Schoop returns. Flaherty started 29 games at second base for the O’s last season.

Now if you’ll excuse me, Jabby Burns is out there chucking rocks at cars somewhere out of anger and I need to go join him.
