Yesterday, Manny Machado claimed he accidentally let go of his bat in the eighth inning against the Athletics. After taking some time to reflect on his actions, Machado apologized to the A’s, his teammates, the Orioles organization and fans.
“You know I want to apologize to all the fans too and the organization,” he said. “You know, this is not the way we play baseball around here. You know, we’re just going to have to put this behind us and play the Oriole way.”
A’s third baseman Josh Donaldson, who Machado initially tussled with, didn’t want to hear it:
Josh Donaldson on Machado apology: "Words are words. You have to go prove something every day."

More Donaldson: "It takes a long time in this game to develop a strong reputation as a player. It takes a very short time to ruin that."

More Donaldson on it taking a short time to ruin a reputation: "the only way to get it back is to go do things the right way." #Machado

Manny got heated and he hasn’t heard the last from the league office. It was a shameful act but one I hope (and think) he will move from it. He’s a young guy who’s scuffling just a bit after a great year and a horrible injury. Not making excuses and certainly not saying that makes it okay, but there won’t be anyone harder on him right now than himself.
