It’s been a busy week. The Ravens cut Todd Heap, Derrick Mason, Willis McGahee and Kelly Gregg. They also lost Donte Stallworth and in my opinion, their biggest loss was free agent cornerback Josh Wilson, both of whom went to the Washington Redskins.
A 3 year, $13.5 million deal w/ $6 M SB seems very reasonable for Josh Wilson. They must be targeting another player.
Wilson, was arguably the best of the Ravens three free agent cornerbacks, Fabian Washington and Chris Carr being the other two.
It’s clear that the Ravens top offseason priority was re-signing offensive lineman Marshal Yanda. It’s my hope that in doing so the Ravens didn’t forget about one of their best corners, Josh Wilson, who they let slip for a very reasonable 3 year/$13.5 million deal with a $6 million signing bonus.
This move says one of two things; either the Ravens completely dropped the ball on Wilson in the midst of what has proven to be a hectic week or the Ravens have bigger plans for the cornerback position in 2011.
Thus far, their moves have made sense, Wilson’s loss seems to be the only flaw. If the Ravens let him slip through the cracks, they need to ensure that they bring back Chris Carr, who has been outspoken about wanting a bigger role with the Ravens this season. If not, then maybe they are in the running for Nmandi Asomugha. The Asomugha rumors have been full of Jets news, but perhaps Baltimore will sneak in at the 11th hour and and pull off a big deal.
You can keep track of all of the Ravens free agents on BSR’s free agent tracker.
I think they have their heart set on Joseph or Namdi. It will be interesting to see how much it costs.
Josh Wilson was not our best free agent corner , he was our best corner period,,,,,,he will be missed plenty,,,,,,,,if ozzie dropped the ball on this one it will really hurt big time , Carr is weak , Washington never was decent , Foxworth is slow to react and coming off an injury and Webb is really a safety,,,,,,,,,,better step up to the plate over-rated ozzie,,,,,,,,,
@ to all,,,,,,,not sure who is commenting under my moniker but they should stop it………….there were a few comments made yesterday and the day before I did not make , I apologize if they offended anyone , I’m critical but usually not crude……….
I don’t know what the Ravens are up to this offseason, but they better get to it…we are loosing a lot of quality players. I had Wilson as our best corner towards the end of last season. Carr has played well too, we better re-sign him. FOxwort is worthless as a corner, Webb is just ok. I’m optimistic though, we CAN’T be off loading our good players for no reason, especially when we are so close to the big dance.
I trust Ozzie in what he does, but this waiting bs is killing me. Its been way too quiet at the castle and with everyone leaving so far, has me worried.
@DUDE, it’s worrying me also… Have the Ravens taken a page from the Orioles? Waiting for the cheap players that no one else wants…
So far the Ravens have gotten rid of their:
Starting Tight End – Heap
Starting All-time Catch leader Wide Receiver – Mason
Starting Fullback (free agent) – McClain
And the Ravens have replaced them with? No one… That’s alot of offense to let go and not replace with proven players.
Teams are out there wheeling & dealing the last two days and the Ravens have just sat there. They talked about Josh Wilson being a top priority and he left without the Ravens even trying to keep him.
Think about this, since Harbaugh came onboard this team has made a drastic downturn in who they sign/trade for.
Gone are the days of mean, nasty star player signings/trades like:
Mike McCrary
Rod Woodson
Tony Siragusa
Sam Adams
Lorenzo Neal
Trevor Price
Jim Leonhard
and others…
Who the Ravens do get are soft players who are yes men and don’t stir the pot. Guys that Harbaugh wants to control.
Chris Carr
Fabian Washington
Cory Redding
Frank Walker
It’s telling the number of Ravens players, both gone and still here that talk negative about this coaching regime. Ed Reed told it like it is and only after 3/4 weeks and probably from alot of pressure did he try to smooth the waters…
You don’t think the Ravens could have used Paul Poluszny, Barrett Ruud, Greg Olsen (Top Bears tight end who was just traded to Carolina), Jason Babin, Nick Barnett, Sidney Rice, etc…
Oh boy, right now I’m really down on the Ravens and what they are not doing… It’s not looking good…
Ozzie is past his prime and Harbaugh never had a prime,,,,,,,,,,people put way too much trust in Ozzie , I believe he has kept this team from several super bowl appearances the past several years with his decline in drafting skill,,,,,,,,,,,,you are right , Harbaugh like these ‘yes men ‘players and it is killing our competitiveness on the field……….my god , Carr can’t even fit into a helmet , but he is a nice guy………time to get nasty Ravens……………
