Capitals General Manager George McPhee underscored how popular hockey has become in Charm City and cited an article in the Washington Post that highlighted this phenomenon. McPhee said he hopes this is the first of many games to come in Baltimore.

Can’t wait. Let’s see how “Big League” Baltimore is. I know this is just a pre-season game, but so was “Dolphins – Saints” in 1992 when the city rallied together to send a message to the NFL. Or in 1988 “Fantastic Fans Night” when Orioles’ fans packed the stadium to support a team that started out 0-21. No, the NHL is not expanding to the Inner Harbor, but let’s show we deserve a couple of regular season games.
The AHL or ECHL needs to set up shop in Baltimore. There isn’t a doubt about that.
