Former Oriole Melvin Mora has officially retired from Major League Baseball. Mora played for the Orioles between 2000 and 2009 and is one of the most beloved Orioles in history. He ranks 9th all time in the Orioles franchise with 1,323 hits. He is also 9th in runs and home runs, 10th in at bats, 8th in total bases and RBI’s, and 7th in doubles. After an argument with Dave Trembley for being left out of the lineup for 3 consecutive days, Mora left the Orioles and played for Colorado for one season. He finished his career last season as a utility man for the Arizona Diamondbacks, but only played 42 games due to injuries. There were reports, as seen here, that Mora wanted to return to Baltimore this season to finish his career. Instead Mora has now retired after a 13 year career. Mora still lives in the Baltimore area and will always be known as a Baltimore Oriole. We at BSR wish Mora the best in his future endeavors.

What? Orioles always have interest in a 42 year old player whose skills have deminished and they wouldn’t sign Mora? Guess the pain is still there from several years ago… Maybe next year Mora can don the Orioles uniform as a starting 3rd baseman when the Orioles get rid of Reynolds…
Maybe they couldn’t sign Mora because they ran out of money after signing or trading for:
Yu Darvish
Gio Gonzalez
C.J. Wilson
Andrew Bailey
Heath Bell
Carlos Beltran
Shaun Marshall
Jason Marquis
Michael Cuddyer
Mat Latos
Mark Melancon
Casey MacGahee
Mark Buehrle
Huston Street
No, Orioles didn’t get those guys? Huh…
Well at least they got:
Dana Eveland
Endy Chavez
Tyler Teagarden
Ryan Flaherty
Ryan Edell
Carlos Larez
Antoan Richardson
Lee Cruz
Tsuyoshi Wada
Those guys will make the Orioles exciting this year as they compete for a .500 record!
Where can I get my season tickets? I’m excited!
Wada was a steal for the money they are paying him. He was a great free agent signing. Eveland could turn out to be one of the best minor moves in the league this year. If he retains his end of 2011 form he could be a huge long relief asset for the Orioles. He is low risk high reward. Same with Chavez. There is no risk with him at all. He will platoon with Reimold and he’s a solid fill in if one of the outfielders go down at some point (Adam Jones.) Chavez also had a great 2011. Teagarden is a solid backup catcher, especially defensively. All of these moves (except for Wada) are small depth moves. Wada is the only real free agent that the Orioles have brought in thus far. They aren’t done building for this season. Unfortunately the plan was to wait for all the big players to be signed and then to come in and get guys who are left with nice value. That system isn’t going to take them anywhere either. They aren’t going to make a splash in free agency, so the only real way to improve is by trade. There is still plenty of time left for the Orioles to pull off a big trade and improve their rotation. The problem is that they are unwilling to trade all the pieces that everyone would want. There is no way they will deal Machado or Bundy. They also don’t want to deal Adam Jones for whatever reason. I think Duquette needs to get with it and deal Adam Jones for a number of pieces from Atlanta. If they are willing to part with Julio Teheran in a Jones deal then the Orioles need to pull the trigger. If I were GM I would target Edwin Jackson, if his number of years drops, and then see what I could get in trades. I would dangle guys like Britton, Guthrie, Tillman, Bergesen, and Jim Johnson to see what young pieces I could get for the system or for the rotation. Jim Johnson is a sometimes excellent reliever, but that’s all he is. I would deal a reliever in a heartbeat, especially one who has already peaked. I would also deal Britton while his value is high. I don’t think he is as good as he started last season. Guthrie would get plenty of attention as a #5 guy on a winning team. Tillman would be a nice trade chip to add to an even bigger deal. Bergesen would be a throw in. It’s not looking good right now. The Orioles need to do something via trade to improve. Staying pact with what they got is the worst possible idea.
IntimiDOOOSH …. you are an $ss
1) More is only 39 …
2) He gave the Os excellent production for his $$
I hate WHINERS like you
Mark – I like your passion for the Orioles even though I don’t agree…
You talk about Chavez platooning with Reimold like thats a good platoon.
Another below .500 year Mark… With no end to the same ol same ol with the Orioles…
As you see, you mentioned before, Darvish, Fielder, Gonzalez and the Orioles got Eveland, Chavez and Wada… Not even close…
One day you will come to the realization that its fans like you that allow Angelos to continue this charade. Keep lining his pockets and he will continue giving you a garbage product.
There is the problem. It’s called loyalty. Those who stick with their team passionately through bad times (even 13 years worth) are the true fans. And they are the ones who deserve the playoff tickets and to celebrate when the team finally does win. Giving up on your team and rooting for someone else makes you a bandwagon fan. I’m the biggest realist you’ll ever meet. I’ll tell you straight up that the Orioles are probably the worst franchise in all of baseball. They are also going to be the whipping team of the AL East again this year because every team is either already stacked, or has gotten tremendously better (Toronto.) That doesn’t mean that there isn’t any good in these moves that they are making. Just because they were terrible last year doesn’t mean that bringing in Reynolds and Hardy weren’t good moves. They will be terrible this year. And Wada will turn out to be a great value move, and Eveland will be a sleeper good move. Unless they get Fielder or trade for some Atlanta players, I won’t be excited about this season personally.
aDCBeast – I love when ass-clowns like you correct someone. 42 – 39, who gives a shit?
By the looks of your writing, you should never have quit the 9th grade to start a family. Your like a big fireworks show aren’t you Einstein. You’re pretty bright, like Lite Brite.
BTW, you still playing “Strip Poker” at your Family Reunion? Heard at your last Family Reunion your Aunt gave her nude dancing debut.
Mark – You can be loyal to your team without being a total mark for them.
You see, if the Orioles traded/signed some good pieces and those guys stunk up the place on the field I would still go to games. However, when the owner/management WILL NOT put good pieces on the field then I will not line their pockets.
If the owner/management gave me (I’m just saying these guys as an example) Gio Gonzalez, Magglio Ordonez, Prince Fielder, Casey MacGahee, Mat Latos and those guys stunk up the joint then I still go to games because management cannot control how they do on the field.
However, the owner/management give me Dana Eveland, Nolan Reimold, Felix Pie, Corey Patterson, Mark Hendrickson, Endy Chavez, Craig Tatum, Tyler Teagarden, Chris Gomez and the like for the past 13 years and I’m not going to go to games when I can see the same product in Bowie.
You got managers, front office people and GM’s that are constantly turning down Oriole jobs because of the current situation. So what happens? The Orioles can only get a GM who has been out of baseball for 10 years, a manager who hasn’t managed for 4 years…
Angelos is raking in cash from the Orioles and telelvision but yet the Nationals are the one’s trading for Gio Gonzalez, signing Jayson Werth (Yes I agree that contract is terrible but at least they tried).
Nationals are drafting Bryce Harper, Drew Storen, Stephen Strasburg, Danny Espinosa, Ryan Zimmerman while the Orioles draft Billy Rowell, Brandon Snyder, Matt Hobgood.
This team is in the class of the Pirates and Royals… That’s pitiful.
Where to start. Let’s start with the Pirates and Royals comment. The Royals the the 2nd best farm system in all of baseball behind Tampa Bay. Some think they are #1. The Pirates were contenders last year and have made nothing but solid moves this offseason. I project them to fight for the division with STL and CIN. I totally agree with you on the Orioles draft picks. Rowell/Snyder/Hobgood were awful. But McPhail was a smart drafter. The only one of those 3 that were his was Hobgood. And Hobgood is still way too young to know exactly what his potential is. Don’t forget that he was drafted out of highschool. That’s something that the all the other draft picks can’t say. Strasburg and Harper were lucky picks for the Nats. The O’s have made some very very solid picks as well with Wieters, Machado, and Bundy. Plus I still believe Matusz will reach potential. Also Reimold wasn’t a free agent, he was drafted. So you can’t put him in the same category as Pie, Hendrickson, and all those other guys. I don’t think we have the greatest owner in baseball by any means but I do think that he has tried everything to win. He spent a lot of money, it didn’t work, and people yelled for him to stop spending and build from within. So then they have built from within, it failed, and people are screaming at him to spend. Right now they are doing neither, and that’s the worst of them all.
Intimidator, you are a funny dude! I want to party with you! DCBEAST is an asswipe.
So I haven’t been around these parts in quite some time.
Sup Intimidator!
Still dealing with people who actually think the Orioles are a legit MLB operation huh?
Last year didn’t convince everyone huh?
Too funny.
Rest assured folks. The Orioles are the most inept organization in all of sports. That includes the Clippers.
For those who still wanna talk about this team as if they matter ask yourselves a few questions.
Why would no young GM touch this job?
Why are the Stockstills still employed by this team?
Why do agents not even bother using the Orioles as leverage anymore when trying to drum up a market for their players?
The Orioles are a dead franchise until a change in ownership occurs. It simply defies logic for ANYONE to try to argue otherwise. It used to be fun entertaining those who fail to see reality. It’s now 2012 (well, almost) and they are as bad as they have ever been.
Oh, and Happy freakin New Year!
Looks like the triumphant return brought back some pessimist half informed anti fan. Last year didn’t convince everyone huh? Convince us of what? Did anyone expect for them to compete? Last year convinced me that we can still bring in solid players like Reynolds and Hardy. Last year convinced me that we had one of the top offenses in the AL. Did you realize the Orioles were 4th in HR’s in the AL. 7th in Runs, 6th in hits, 6th in TB, 7th in RBI, and 6th in AVG. Last year taught me that we really need pitching help because all of our starters are very young and are years away from peaking. We had one of the youngest and most inexperienced rotations in all of baseball. Matusz is 24, Arrieta is 25, Britton is 23, and Tillman is 23. Yes Tillman is 23. He was a highschool guy in the draft. How is a 23 year old with that much upside a PTBNL???? That makes no sense. So before you make another triumphant return you have a lot of studying to do on player value and ceilings.
Did somebody say Chris Tillman would be a nice trading chip?
Chris Tillman is now a PTBNL.
Marky Mark makes his triumphant return.
Marky Mark – Never thought I would say this but man I am glad your back. I need to get an alliance together with you…
Dice Dangler – Great name…
Intimidator, you and Mark could be the “Evil Alliance”.
IntimiDOOOSH … Alright FAGGOT boy … so now you claim that you were exaggerating Mora’s age ? For what Fucking reason ?
You better have done the same for Cal when he retired. Otherwise we will have to call your fat ass for being a hypocrite …
Mora never claimed to be a HOFer … but he did provide some very solid numbers during his years for the Os …
I hate fat fuck internet WHINERS like you … who think every pro athlete has to produce HOF numbers to be worth something …
WTF do you think of Rick Dempsey then ? The guy hit .224 the year he won the MVP in the WS ….
BTW …. PhD … Professional Baseball Player … Your lame 9th grade comment is clear projection …
I have more knowledge than you could ever possess even if you went to the Pratt Library on Cathedral
It’s one thing to bash the Os mgmt for signing clowns but trashing players who performed above expectations like Mora is low.
Had you listed Orioles flops like Glenn Davis or Boby Bonilla then you would have had some secure footing. Ripping Mora made your argument just a rant from a clown.
Mark …. Are you a DOOOSH by choice or by DNA design?
You do know that Angelos as most small market owners don’t give a shit whether they win or lose?
The owners in Pittsburgh, Miami, and at least 10 other cities make 20 million a year even if their teams finish 62-100. $$$$ is their goal not winning.
This is the reason the NBA players fought so hard to make owners spend a greater % of the salary cap … so players know teams are actually trying to win and not just make a profit sucking
That you fail to recognize this means you are naive to the business of sport … or just an internet ASSHOLE .. I go with the latter
aDCBeast – Before I start busting on you first answer one question for me… Where in my comments did I bust on Mora like you said? I said his skills diminished, that’s it.
Now another question… Are you Mora’s bitch?
You also railed against Mark and that’s not good. Mark is more of an evil bastard than I am.
Faggot boy??? Man, you are on your game today aren’t you Clarence?
See you were up early today to go to work. Got to say, wearing an orange vest and twirling a “Stop/Go” sign all day sure beats what you used to do holding up a sign that said “Will work for food”… At least you’re moving up in the world. Who knows, maybe your next job you’ll need to wear a clean shirt every day.
Your gene pool doesn’t have a “deep end” does it Hoss?
ADCBEAST
You in over your head son. Mark & Intimidator will crush you. Just apologize and leave with your head between your legs. You are finished.
ACDCbeast, you are an idiot. Intimidator never dogged Mora and Marks comments were spot on. Like Intimidator said, you shouldn’t have quit the 9th grade to start a family because you are clueless.
Who says the “I have more” comment like you said “I have more knowledge than you could ever possess even if you went to the Pratt Library on Cathedral”? You sure you even made it to the 9th grade?
Looks like everyone is against you. Mark, Intimidator, Dice and me so far. You are finished if the Chowman drops by.
Oh, this is too good.
I’m uninformed huh?
The dump I took this morning is more informed than some of the posts I’ve read on this topic.
My point wasn’t about last year in a vaccuum. It was about it being the last string. But of course that flew over some people’s heads. Not surprising in the least. It’s pretty shocking that the 14th consecutive debacle wasn’t enough. But hey, some people are slow on the take.
Oh, and I love the loyalty talk. Anyone here fly across the country in 2010 to see the Giants series? Anyone go to Wrigley in 2009 to see the series with the Cubs? No? Then STFU about loyalty.
And another thing. Yes, people did think the Orioles would contend last season. In fact, I’ve got about 500 bucks and some free dinners to show for it.
And yes, Tillman is a PTBNL. And Matusz had the worst ERA in modern baseball history. It’s OK though. They are still young right?
It’s just too funny to see this stuff being posted. Pessimist? An F’n pessimist? No no no no. It’s called being a realist. And for some, reality seems to be something they can’t grasp.
Is Markakis working out this offseason? Or he is still doing nothing and smoking cigarettes?
Is Matusz doing cardio? Or will he come back to spring training with a a terrible attitude and not listen to his pitching coach?
Is Roberts still an Oriole or is he sipping on martini’s with Angelos while collecting his 20 million over the next 2 seasons. It’s cool because Angelos thinks Brian is “dreamy”.
If anyone really wants to get into a debate about this franchise, do so at your own peril. But this guy is bitter and knows WAY more than you do about everything.
And that’s a fact.
Definitely uninformed…baseball definitely isn’t your thing…perhaps you should just stick to football? If you or anyone else actually took the Orioles to be contenders last year then I encourage you to never gamble on the sport. That was a thoughtless prediction. You seem to not know much at all about player value. Especially if you think a 23 year old pitcher like Tillman would be a PTBNL. Your way off. He has 7 years to go before he even hits his prime. No team in the league is going to give away a 23 year old which a ceiling like his. Do you have any idea who Matusz is or what his upside is? He was the best collegiate pitcher in the country. He has already shown flashes of brilliance where he dominated at the major league including one specific game at Yankee Stadium. You can’t say Matusz isn’t good when he’s only been in the league for 2 years and on a losing team. Ever heard of the Detroit Tigers. They are a baseball team in Michigan. They had a bunch of young pitching, were awful for years, their pitching got experience, their pitching got older, and they went to the World Series. Ever heard of the Tampa Bay Rays? They are a baseball team in Florida. Former new franchise team actually. They were awful for their entire existence. Then their young pitching grew up and they went to the World Series. Matusz, Britton, Arrieta have just as much upside as anyone they had on their staffs. I am the biggest realist you’ll ever find. Either watch baseball leisurely or find another sport to debate on, because your theories on this one are uninformed.
Boys , the O’s are not worth all your energy , actually they are not worth any of your energy,,,,,,,,,,Peter the Great has made sure this team is leaving a black mark on this city,,,,,,,,,Flanny must be turning over in his grave , try directing your energy towards a team that cares for you and this city , the Ravens love Baltimore and we love them,,,,,,Go Ravens………..Forget the O’s , they are losers…………
The Ravens? Why would I root for them? The only people that should be Ravens fans are those that started watching football after 1995. Anyone who was a fan of another team before then, either abandoned their own team or became a bandwagon fan. Therefore they can’t be very strong football fans. How could you ever just stop rooting for your own team and jump to another one? That shows a lack of loyalty. The same goes for Nationals fans. Unless they were Expos fans they just aren’t strong fans. Anyone who jumped away from their own team, The Orioles, to root for a new team, might as well not be a fan of baseball. You can’t just switch teams when it comes to sports.
Ahhhh Spy… Considering the way the Ravens and Harbaugh have treated the fans lately, I don’t think the Ravens love the fans…
You may be right , but I think it is Harbaugh doing this damage , the reciprocal love may return when he is gone , I hope so as I still believe the Ravens in general love the fans , don’t give up hope just yet , my friend…………
Tillman has SEVEN years till he gets into his prime?
Sweet baby Jesus.
You mention all those other teams as if that means the Orioles are going down that path.
I cannot believe I’m actually even responding to this gibberish.
Or that you actually posted it.
I’ll check back in June when this team is 20 games under .500 once again.
Nothing is changing.
IntimiDOOOSH ….. “Orioles always have interest in a 42 year old player whose skills have deminished and they wouldn’t sign Mora? Guess the pain is still there from several years ago… Maybe next year Mora can don the Orioles uniform as a starting 3rd baseman”
This is bagging on Mora.
You all are CLOWNS …. that is why you post here
You’ve never done jack shit in your life ….
Good thing the internet exists to WHINE on because we know you all get your asses handed to you every day in the real world
We may be clowns at times but you are the guy walking around with the shovel and garbage pail,,,,,,,,,wow this day job of yours actually explains your comments on this site,,,,,,,,,you are very good at shoveling it , it must be common in the DC area……….now do your job right and follow the horses asses…………how do you like bringing up the rear………..I have to stop this , I just can’t stand laughing so much , my side hurts …………
Spot on Spy… One day ACDCBeast will get to wear a clean shirt to work like the rest of us…
Lets see… There is:
Blue Collar
White Collar
Brown Collar for ACDCBeast
Mark .. “And another thing. Yes, people did think the Orioles would contend last season. In fact, I’ve got about 500 bucks and some free dinners to show for it.”
Horse Manure.
Oh wait a minute. Did you mean contend for last place?
The 20 ESPN experts all picked the Orioles to finish last in the AL East.
Well guess what? I didn’t make a wager with any of the ESPN experts. And what do their picks have to do with who I wagered with?
You see, there are still those in this town who do buy into the garbage that the warehouse sells every season.
My bets ranged from people who thought they would be .500 to those who had them winning 89 games.
In fact, I believe I’m owed a dinner from a guy who contributes to this site.
And the irony of your other post is fantastic.
