We all agree that a two game sweep isn’t a real sweep, right? OK, good. Now that we’re on the same page, let’s talk about something that makes us all happy.
The 20 year old phenom had three doubles in his four hit day against the Padres on Wednesday afternoon. Machado is up to a .343/.379/.541 slash and is tied with Boston’s Mike Napoli for the Major League lead in doubles (17).
The O’s third baseman recorded his 18th multi-hit game of the season, tying Alex Gordon and Miguel Cabrera (the MVP/Triple Crown winner) for the lead in the bigs. He leads Major League Baseball in hits with 59. Mercy (as Gary Thorne would say).
Machado is the youngest player with three doubles in a game since Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente in 1955. But he apparently (according to some at least) isn’t in the same category as Mike Trout and Bryce Harper.
If he keeps it up the Orioles might need to sign him to a ten year deal this season — no seriously, they might.
Sign Manny Now, before he hires Scott Boros.
They are going to struggle to sign Wieters for that very reason.

If the O’s do not sign a couple of these young guys way early in their careers they just may lose them to those two teams north of us , and don’t forget the Dodgers , they will be in the hunt also………………better sign them early, I agree with Zach and MGW , if just one of these guys ends up with the Yankees the good Buck has done will all be for naught as a very large number of fans it took a long time to get back will just up and leave saying ” whats’ the use of putting faith in this organization’………….I hope they realize this and sign them early as I will be one of those fans who is wright on the doorstep of coming back,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
