On September 1, I would have told you that Mark Reynolds was preparing to play his final month in an Orioles uniform. His three-year, $14.5 million contract was set to expire and I never would have thought that the O’s would pick up his 2013 $11 million option.
Many wanted the Orioles to release Reynolds before he even reached the season’s final month, but Dan Duquette and company kept Reynolds on the roster and he’s been a pivotal part of the team’s run in September.
This month, Reynolds has hit nine of his 23 homers and recorded a 2.80 RE24. Between September 2-8, Reynolds hit seven bombs in 27 at-bats and recorded two-multi homer games against the Yankees.
You mix that production with his Gold Glove caliber defense at first base and you just might convince the Orioles to pick up the 11 mil.
“Yes, we have interest,” Orioles GM Dan Duquette told MASNSports.com’s Roch Kubatko. “We’ll see how it shakes out.”
