According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, Orioles catcher Matt Wieters will visit Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday to be examined for elbow soreness he has been suffering. As The Baltimore Sun’s Eduardo Encina tweets, Wieters missed a game in Toronto at the end of April with forearm stiffness, usually an early indicator of a UCL injury.
Should Andrews examination reveal that Wieters does in fact need Tommy John surgery, he could delay it until the end of the season. As we’ve already seen on Tuesday, Wieters can serve as the Orioles designated hitter, but won’t be effective in his role behind the dish.
Norfolk Tides catcher Caleb Joseph was scratched from Tuesday’s lineup.
Wieters has caught just one runner attempting to steal this season, 11 have reached successfully. A season ago, Wieters caught 24 runners and allowed just 44 stolen bases.

No TJ for now, but I feel like I’ve heard this story before.
“Manny is NOT going to need surgery, he’s going to re-hab it”
“Manny’s going to need surgery, but should be ready by Opening Day”
