Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters is set to hit the open market at the end of the 2015 season. The Scott Boras client told MASNSports.com’s Roch Kubatko that he has not had extension talks with the O’s:
Wieters confirmed no extension talks with #orioles. “It’s the farthest thing from my mind. I just want to get back on the field and play.”

Wieters continues to recover from Tommy John surgery. He slashed .308/.339/.500 in 26 games for the Birds in 2014 before being shut down for the season. He updated Kubatko on his progress:
Wieters said he expanded throwing distance to 150 feet today. Had been up to 120 #orioles @1057TheFan

Wieters said he’s still preparing as though he’ll be ready for opening day. Everything going great with his throwing program @1057TheFan

Wieters joins a list of Orioles free agents that includes Chris Davis, Wei-Yin Chen, Bud Norris, Tommy Hunter and Darren O’Day next winter.
