Monday marked the third Opening Day the Orioles have taken part in this season. Seems a tad excessive.
They began the season on the road in Tampa Bay, came to Baltimore for their home opener against Minnesota and then traveled to Boston for Opening Day at Fenway Park. After their 3-1 loss to the Red Sox, Matt Wieters told reporters he’s happy to finally get into a normal groove with their schedule.
“I think this off day is very much needed,” Wieters said. “The opener week can be very difficult with day-game, night-game, day-game, night-game, things like that, so it’s nice to get a day off and kind of try to get back into that normal schedule that it will be for the rest of the year.”
Normal? Yes. Easy? No sir. The Birds battle the Red Sox again on Wednesday and Thursday before traveling to New York for a three game set with the Yankees. They’re off Monday April 15 prior to a 9-game homestand and have a 20-game stretch with a trip to the west coast without a day off.
Welcome to the “normal schedule.”
