Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com is reporting that Brian Matusz will make his major league debut against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday.

Baltimore has made the move all but official, as they usually do with call ups, but Matusz boarded a plane this afternoon that was headed to the motor city.

Several news sources are also reporting that Chris Waters will be returning to the bigs as well. I first became aware of it from WNST’s twitter feed, but Roch has also confirmed the reports.

When I first heard the news on Waters I assumed that he would be starting Tuesday instead of Matusz, but are the Orioles going to send Jason Berken down?

Berken is coming off his worst start in the majors in the O’s 18-10 loss to the Red Sox. He went just 1.1 inning giving up six earned runs and sky rocketed his ERA up to 6.93. Berken hasn’t won a game since his major league debut on May 26th.

Chris Waters is a career minor leaguer at 28 years old and had some success with Baltimore in 2008. On August 5, 2008 he made his debut with a complete game one hit shut out against the Angels. He ended up finishing the year 3-5 with a 5.01 ERA.

Not a bad call up by the Orioles, but Waters definitely isn’t a part of the rebuilding the Orioles have undergone this season.
