In a recent Baseball Tonight panel featuring Buster Olney and Tim Kurkjian, Olney listed the Orioles as the A.L. East’s most intriguing team in the American League East.
“They’ve made some very strong additions to their lineup with Mark Reynolds and Vladimir Guerrero,” he said. “I don’t think they have enough to contend, but they are going to be an interesting team to watch.”
Kurkjian took the Tampa Bay Rays as his most intriguing team.
What do you think of Olney’s assessment of the Orioles?
I agree, they are intriguing. I am not sure if they are good, but with that many new pieces there are a lot of interesting stories for this season.
As usual, pitching matters. If team era falls by half a run even, and they score 80 more runs than last year, playoffs are likely.
It all comes down to health and pitching. And Reynolds batting over .260, and not striking out so darn much.
