Tim Lincecum, Max Scherzer, Travis Snider, Matt Antonelli, Kyle Drabek, Ian Kennedy, Hang Conger and Daniel Bard. All these players were drafted after the Orioles selected third baseman Billy Rowell with the ninth overall pick in the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft.
Last season Rowell finally made it to AA, where hit hit .227 with no home runs and 11 RBI. He spent three full seasons with the Frederick Keys in Single-A’s Carolina League.
Now Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports that Rowell is going to give pitching a shot.
“He has been taking part in the beginnings of a throwing program the last two days in Sarasota and will continue with that for about a month,” Melewski writes. “At that point, the Orioles will decide if he has made enough progress to pitch in extended spring training games. If he advances past that, he could possibly join a minor league affiliate as a pitcher later this season.”
Something tells me that just isn’t going to work out.
Typical O’s………..they just can’t do it and they just don’t care…………Go Ravens………baseball is dead in Baltimore , do you need any more reasons ?????????????
Oh man, the Orioles can’t do anything right…
Keep giving them your money all you fans… That’s why they keep doing dumbshit. You all keep giving them money…
Go down to Bowie and watch the same talent…
2014 will see the Orioles starting Dylan Bundy at 3rd base…
BTW, what happened to all those good, young arms the Orioles were supposed to have via all those trades? What a joke.
Read last week that a coach/scout not affiliated with the Orioles said that the Orioles need to redo the mechanics of all their supposidly decent pitchers because the Orioles screwed them up when they altered their pitching.
It’s a pity when the Orioles are touting the stadium more than the team. Worst part is that most people celebrate bigtime the 25 year anniversary but since the Orioles suck so bad they have to do something so they decided 20 years is cause for a big circus like environment and maybe the fans will come out for that since they don’t come out for the team.
You can question the pick all you want, and that is fair but this is a good idea – assuming he has the skills to pull it off … Alexi Ogando was a failed pick as an OF for the Rangers and they did the same thing – turning him into a 13 game winner last season … Hold out hope, O’s Fans!!!
