Tim Lincecum, Max Scherzer, Travis Snider, Matt Antonelli, Kyle Drabek, Ian Kennedy, Hang Conger and Daniel Bard.  All these players were drafted after the Orioles selected third baseman Billy Rowell with the ninth overall pick in the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft.

Last season Rowell finally made it to AA, where hit hit .227 with no home runs and 11 RBI.  He spent three full seasons with the Frederick Keys in Single-A’s Carolina League.

Now Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports that Rowell is going to give pitching a shot.

“He has been taking part in the beginnings of a throwing program the last two days in Sarasota and will continue with that for about a month,” Melewski writes.  “At that point, the Orioles will decide if he has made enough progress to pitch in extended spring training games. If he advances past that, he could possibly join a minor league affiliate as a pitcher later this season.”

Something tells me that just isn’t going to work out.
