The Orioles will erect six bronze statues of their Hall of Famers, Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Jim Palmer, Earl Weaver, Eddie Murray and Cal Ripken Jr. inside Oriole Park at Camden Yards.  Pete Kerzel of MASNSports.com reports that the statues will be in place for the 20th anniversary celebration of Oriole Park at Camden Yards in 2012.

The O’s have announced plans to overhaul the left-center field picnic area for the six statues likely replacing the O’s Xtra Pregame set.  Kerzel reports that the plans for the statues have been in place for over a year, but that the Orioles withheld the information from the public in order to avoid one-upping the newly unveiled Brooks Robinson statue between Russell Street and Washington Boulevard that was privately funded.

This announcement should stop some of the complaints of whiny, biased radio personalities in Baltimore that argue that the Orioles don’t honor their heritage and history enough.  Baltimore unveiled their orange plaques featuring the team’s retired numbers in left field two seasons ago.  Now their Hall of Famers will be on display in center field.  …I’m sure he’ll find something else to whine about.
