Steve Pearce - Baltimore Orioles

After getting pounded by the Rays on Sunday, the Orioles bounced back against Texas with an easy, breezy 7-1 win victory last night. Aren’t laugher wins fun, you guys? It’s nice to feel good from the first inning on.

Of the Orioles seven runs, six of them came on their four home runs. Steve Pearce and Adam Jones went yard in the first, J.J. Hardy doubled his season total with a solo shot in the second and Pearce went deep again in the fourth.

Talk about a power surge.

With last night’s effort, the Orioles wrap up June with an MLB leading 46 dingers after leading baseball in homers in 2013 (212) and finishing in second in 2012 (214).

Yup, the long ball is certainly a part of their success. Just check out these stats from this season:

  • 37-21 when they hit at least one home run
  • 21-9 when they hit two or more home runs
  • 8-0 when hitting 3 or more home runs

Nelson Cruz leads the O’s in homers (25), followed by Adam Jones (15) and Chris Davis (13). Here’s how the Orioles fare when they go deep:

  • 33-27 when Nelson Cruz homers
  • 25-21 when Adam Jones homers
  • 16-14 when Chris Davis homers

As a team, the Orioles have slashed .266/.337/.408 with runners in scoring position, ranking 7th in MLB. They’ve also hit 21 dingers with RISP as well (7th in MLB).
