J.J. Hardy - Baltimore Orioles shortstop

Last night was Jim Hunter and Roch Kubatko’s weekly Orioles offseason radio show on WBAL which means Twitter followers (or listeners too, I suppose) were greeted with a plethora of news from GM Dan Duquette. Here’s the tastiest nugget I took away from Roch’s tweets:

J.J. Hardy has earned back-to-back Gold Gloves for his efforts at shortstop and has hit .256/.298/.434 with 77 homers over three seasons with the O’s. The 31-year-old will earn $7 million this season (plus incentives[1]) as part of the three-year, $22.5 million deal that he signed in 2012.

His 25 homers in 2013 were tied for the most among all shortstops (Troy Tulowitzki also hit 25 dingers). He ranked third in RBI (76), fourth in slugging percentage (.433) and fifth in wOBA (.322).

Some other takeaways from Duquette’s comments include this stuff:

YAY, confidence!
