Bad news for the Orioles and Brian Roberts, it appears that the concussion symptoms that he suffered sliding into first base against the Red Sox are still lingering. Roberts saw a specialist in Pittsburgh who advised no baseball activity for two more weeks. Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports that Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail said “it could be longer.”
For now the Orioles have replaced Roberts at leadoff with Felix Pie and in the field with Robert Andino. MacPhail told MLB.com’s Brittany Ghiroli hat the O’s will “continue to look at other options, internally and externally.”
The big question is, who could be on the Orioles radar to fill Roberts’ spot?
Z-Man…Too bad Andy and Co. didn’t look a little harder in the off-season or during spring training when Bip’s back was acting up again, huh? Sure Brendan Harris and Nick Green had big league experience, less the All Star filled resume…Ah well, our O’s were a .500 team deep in to May, which is nice…Plus, with Buck at the helm, the O’s have become the most fundamentally sound team in the Junior Circuit (if you discount their inability to advance runners via the sacrifice bunt and their tendency to run in to outs on the base paths, etc)…
