What are the Baltimore Orioles players saying about Vlad Guerrero? The O’s welcome their new DH with open arms and are excited to play along side the nine time All-Star, 2004 MVP, eight time Silver Slugger (including last season) and all around impaler.

  • Brian Roberts (via twitter): “Wow! Vlad?? This is starting to get exciting! Can’t wait to get to Spring Training!”
  • Nick Markakis (via Jeff Zrebiec): “He used to kill us with Anaheim.  It’s nice to have him on our side now.  He’s going to help us tremendously.”
  • Adam Jones (via twitter): :Just had the a great thought. Now we have Vlad : 1. He’s going to rake. 2. Ummm rake 3. Heard his mom cooks everyday. Dominican comida #O’s”
  • Luke Scott (via Jeff Zrebiec): “Vladimir is what I call, a freak in a good way. He’s a freak of nature. The reason I say that is he’s the best bad ball hitter I’ve ever seen. He hits pitches out of the ballpark hard that most Major League hitters have a hard time fouling off.”

Additionally, baseball experts from around the league applauded Andy MacPhail and the Orioles for the movie.  Jim Bowden, who tweeted that Vlad would fit Baltimore early on, tweeted on Friday that Guerrero was a clean up hitter on A.L. Pennant Winners and was on first place teams the last three years.  Another former G.M. Jim Duquette also liked the move.  He said that there hasn’t been a big signing in Baltimore since Miguel Tejada and 2003 and that Vlad’s second half shouldn’t be enough to shy away from the deal he was given in Baltimore.

The best comment I’ve seen on the interwebs so far was from Mike Ferrin of MLBNetwork Radio who replied to Duquette saying that though July was bad and August was not great for Guerrero, he did have a solid September.  “Vlad’s 2nd half. July Brutal, August not great: September .311/.351/.491 w/a full compliment of PA & No Josh Hamilton.”
