Ken Rosenthal tweeted on Friday that the Orioles have reached a verbal agreement with first baseman Derrek Lee. Though the details of the contract have not been released, Rosenthal wrote that it was a one year deal pending a physical.

MLBTradeRumors.com’s Zach Links speculated that the deal could be worth up to $8 million.  Upon hearing about the deal, O’s centerfielder Adam Jones tweeted, “I just seen that we signed D. Lee. Great move. Great guy. Couldnt be happier. So imma celebrate in Vegas to bring in the New Year. #2011”

The Nationals have gone after the Orioles other first base option, Adam LaRoche, offering him a two year deal.
