Are the Orioles in the market for an ace at the deadline? Will they seek out a second baseman or catcher?
On the BSR Podcast this week, Patrick Guthrie and I looked at some of the pitchers that will be available at the deadline and talked about what it would take for the Orioles to land them. The Phillies sound open to moving A.J. Burnett, Cliff Lee and possibly even Cole Hamels. David Price could be the biggest arm moved in the coming weeks. With the Royals falling below .500, James Shields could also be dealt.
So what are Dan Duquette and the Orioles to do? Are the Birds willing to part with a top prospect for two years of Price? Do they consider themselves enough of a World Series contender to bring in Big Game James?
Perhaps the Birds stand pat and instead look to improve their bullpen who have thrown the seventh most innings of any club this season and have a 10.3% HR/FB.
