The Orioles announced earlier this week that they will charge a game day ticketing fee of $1 to $5 for walk ups after 12:01 AM.
It’s basically as simple as that, if you show up to Camden Yards on game day to buy tickets, you will pay more than face value.
While some fans may be alarmed by this fee, since the Orioles have struggled to put butts in seats, I’m not worried about the fee at all. If you’re a O’s fan that goes to as many games as I do, you buy your tickets before you go to the game.
O’s fans can get $50 tickets on StubHub for $25-$30. I do this about 15 times a year.
In my opinion, if the O’s want to charge fans a few extra bucks for walk-ups, no problem. Fans have more than enough different ways to access tickets.
Dude… Don't let the StubHub secret out.
As for the price increase, it seems like the organization is hoping to capitalize on the number of out of town fans that buy tickets at the last minute- ie Yankee and Sox fans. i hope it doesn't alienate others in the process.
Sorry Sadler.
This is the exact type of thinking that makes people stay away.
Just as an example, say I "plan" to go to a game on a Friday night. I look at the weather forecast on Tuesday and it's iffy. So if I don't buy tickets ahead of time and decide to walk up at 6 O'clock because the skies are clear…. I now have to pay extra?
The stadium is located within walking distance for thousands of residents. I know many people who will wake up on a Saturday or Sunday and decide that morning that they want to walk over and catch a game.
Now they get penalized for not planning ahead?
There is simply no demand for Oriole tickets. NONE. Yet the brainiacs over at the warehouse think this is a good idea and part of their reasoning is that 10 other teams have done it. Brilliant Greg. Are any of those ten other teams mired in a 12 season streak of losing seasons? Nope.
And I love the argument about how an Oriole ticket is cheaper than a Ravens ticket. Ravens play 10 home games a year including 2 preseason games. The Orioles play 81 home games a year. Does he think we are all morons? Actually, I think he does.
Either raise the prices across the board and say you are doing it to create more money for better players (a lie but at least reasonable) or "reward" people who buy tickets earlier by CUTTING those prices.
Another brain dead move by the Orioles.
