Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com boldly tweeted that in three years the Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens will regret their respective deals for Matt Forte and Ray Rice.

The Bears inked Forte to a four-year, $32 million contract while the Ravens signed Ray Rice to a five-year, $40 million deal.

While Prisco received a lot of backlash from Bears and Ravens fans, he’s probably right.  And honestly, that’s okay.

It’s unrealistic to think that the Ravens will get solid productivity out of Rice for the next five years.  There’s a reason they moved up in the draft to snag Bernard Pierce in the third round.  The life of a top-tier NFL running back is short and that’s why I would have been fine with tagging Rice for two seasons and saying good bye.

That’s not to say that I disagree with this deal.  The beauty of NFL contracts is that when they don’t work out, the team cuts their loses and moves on.  Rice isn’t guaranteed five years of security with Baltimore and both he and the Ravens know that.
