UPDATE: I jokingly said that Ovi just bumped into the First Lady, but in fact that’s exactly what happened.  Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post solved this mystery.

“I don’t know how he did that,” Alzner said. “How the heck did that happen, is what I want to know. I thought they eat at home with their chef and stuff. I’ve got to find out about that.”

Well, I wanted to find out about it, too, so I asked Ovechkin after Monday’s practice.

“Me and [Jason] Arnott go to restaurant and she was there,” Ovechkin explained. “So I asked the manager can we take a picture with her. It was kind of cool, and she was very nice. Like, it’s unbelievable.”

Seriously, if you aren’t following Alex Ovechkin on twitter, you’re missing the best the internet has to offer.  On Friday, the Capitals star tweeted a photo of himself chilling with first lady Michelle Obama.  Like he ran into her at a coffee shop or something.

Best comment on the Ovi/Obama photo comes from Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy.

This is, perhaps, the most historic U.S./Russia summit since the one in Reykjavík that eventually resulted in the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty between the United States and the Soviet Union. Or since Bill Clinton and that vodka luge filled with Smirnoff back in ’98.

Next step, get the Pres to a Caps game!
