Well, the O’s most productive hitter is now out for 2 weeks. Last night after swinging at a pitch, Pie tweaked his shoulder and was in obvious pain as he was running home to score.
In his stead, the O’s have called up Lou Montanez. Lou had decent numbers but he was by far no the most productive hitter in the lineup. Outfielders Jeff Salazar and Rhyne Hughes are off to incredible starts, but Lou is know as the stronger outfielder.
Lou, who has shown some frustration in his lack of opportunities, will have a shot to prove homself this season.
Did the O’s call up the right guy? Will Sweet Lou seize his opportunity?
We know what Lou can do. I want to see them give Hughes a chance.
I'm surprised to read your second sentence after your first. I'm excited to see what Lou can do up here again…bummed that Pie went down.
Lou had some pop in 2008 and got hurt in 2009. Hopefully he can spark this offense.
Basically, we know what Lou can do at the MLB leve. We've given him at-bats, we know what we're going to get out of him.
Hughes has been a very good hitter during his time at AAA, why not give him some MLB at-bats to see what he can do?
In my opinion, despite the 8 game losing streak the O's still expect to win some games this season and they are more confident in Montanez than Hughes. I agree with that opinion. He'll be up in September though.
Statistically speaking, Hughes is the guy. Go O's.
I wanna see Hughes play too, but the O's haven't been known to rush anyone. He'll get his turn this year.
as I said in my post, it comes down to defense. Rhyne Hughes used to play the OF. Most recently he has been a 1st baseman. The only reason he isn't play 1st at Norfolk is because Snyder and Aubrey are demanding all the time there.
Needless to say, Reimold is not at his best and his best is still suspect in Left Field. They need to bring in someone who can cover the field in the meantime.
Very good point. It would be nice to see Hughes play 1st though. We know what Aubrey can do and Snyder provides some depth at the position.
