Everyday on BSR we take a look at a different Oriole’s numbers from last season and set goals for them this year. Today we take a look at the new shortstop the Bird’s acquired during the off season, Cesar Izturis.

Just like in Gregg Zaun’s projections from yesterday, Cesar Izturis was not picked up by the Orioles for his offensive production. Rather for what he will do on defense. If Izturis can drive in a few more guys and hit a couple more homeruns then he would have a great year at the plate.
However, if his numbers are exactly the same this year as in 2008, at the very least he will provide a strong defensive role in the middle of the O’s infield. He’s no Louie Hernandez or Brandon Fahey, the guy should hold his own in 2009.
