Last week, Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis had some harsh words for Browns running back Peyton Hillis and on Sunday the Ravens backed up the smack talk by silencing the big bruiser. “We’re not coming in there to overlook them or nothing, and we definitely ain’t coming in there to give him over 100 yards again,” Lewis told the media last week.
On the field Sunday the Ravens did just as the veteran said. Baltimore limited the Hillis to just 35 yards on 12 carries with a long of just seven.
“We knew we had to come in here and stop the run,” Ed Reed said according to BaltimoreRavens.com.
“Peyton Hillis is real tough”, Haloti Ngata told Aaron Wilson after the game. “We did a good job of corralling him and tackling him. He’s a great running back, hard runner.”
This marks the second straight game that the Ravens have limited the run. Baltimore held the Saints to just 27 yards on the ground by making Reggie Bush a non-factor with his 4 rushes for -4 yards.
