Earth shaking news out at Owings Mills today, the Baltimore Ravens appear close to have reached a two year deal for offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie. Ryan Mink of BaltimoreRavens.com broke the news of the deal, which team officials have announced that they are working on with the former Minnesota Viking.
McKinnie was a dominant force for the Minnesota Vikings during the past nine seasons.
He was cut by the team on Aug. 3 after going on the non-football injury list. McKinnie reported to training camp at nearly 400 pounds, according to reports. He was listed at 6-foot-8, 335 pounds last season.
In addition to failing his physical, McKinnie also has a history of making some bad decisions. There’s the 2005 gas station incident, the boat cruise scandal and the 2008 night club incident. But other that that…
Assuming McKinnie gets in shape, he could move Michael Oher back over to right tackle. He was about 65 pounds over weight just a few weeks ago though.
Why didn’t we just keep Gaither @ left tackle back when? Instead, we move Ohrer back to RT anyway. And instead of keeping a better lineman in Gaither, we get this fat, old whale. I respect Ozz a lot, but the offensive line and Cornerback crap may have cost us a ring or 2. Just sayin’.
Gaither had a back injury that kept him out of action for a year. It must’ve not gotten much better, because the team decided not to bring him back this offseason. Not to mention Gaither got out of shape and slower after his one solid season starting at LT.
Oher was a 1st-round pick who was considered the franchise’s future at LT. He’s still quite raw, and he’s gotten better every season he’s been in the league. Be patient. It’s tough, but he’ll get there.

He has not gotten better,,,,,you are not paying attention again………
Just one more ozzie screw up…..
I know, I know, this is a man’s game and sometimes shady guys play it, but do the Ravens have to pick up every shady guy that comes along. Kindle, Smith, Stallworth. Isn’t this what the Bengals tried for a few years? I know, Ray Ray will keep em straight, right? Just like he kept Chris McAllister in line, right?
Ozzie gets ’em cheap , he has mismanaged the salary cap and has top work this way every year……..
McKinnie may have the best free agent signing story of any in the NFL this season. Almost at the exact time as he signed, the Earth shook. If that’s not a sign, I don’t know what is.

I believe that if Gaither had not been moved out of his regular position his “bad back” would have been just fine. Ohrer is a much better RT than a LT.
I can’t imagine they’re really thinking about moving Oher to RT and letting this guy start at LT. IMO, they’ll let the RT they just signed from NE’s cutlist and McKinney duke it out while Jah Reid gets some experience. Worst case, they got these guys on the cheap and now have some depth if someone goes down. As suspect as the O-line play has been already with everyone (on the edges, at least) healthy, could you imagine the nightmare we’d face if one starter went down? We’d have a sixth rounder starting in no time because our franchise QB (yes, he is) would be broken in several spots.

Just more of the same from an over valued GM who has never sniffed a super bowl as the GM…………
