So Arthur Jones just completed his first year in the NFL for the Ravens as a defensive tackle for the team, but did you know that he has two brothers, Chandler and Jon. Chandler is on the Syracuse football team where Arthur went but Jon competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Not only that, but Jon just became the youngest champion in the history of the company at 23 years, 8 months last night in Newark, New Jersey defeating Mauricio “Shogun” Rua for the light heavyweight title.
Jon is a monkey in the ring with the longest reach in the company at 84 1/2 inches and he uses creativity as well in the ring with moves that aren’t seen by the typical mixed martial artist. For me, he has become must watch TV whenever he is in the ring from the first time I saw him against Stephan Bonnar about 2 and a half years ago.
With his unorthodox style and crazy reach, he has become not just the present of the UFC but also the future. He has only been training in mixed martial arts for three years but his brain is a sponge to learn. He is a crazy blend of amazing wrestling, muay thai, striking and jiu jitsu. His managers have said he has an “Ali-esque” personality and the Tiger Woods drive and dominance to bring in the casual fan. As a fight fan, I can’t wait to see where the ride takes him.
