The Ravens have fired quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn. Aaron Wilson of NationalFootballPost.com broke the news on Thursday afternoon.
The Baltimore Ravens have fired quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn after one season, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.
The former Washington Redskins head coach spent one season in Baltimore coaching Joe Flacco.
According to a source, Zorn wasn’t an ideal fit with the rest of the staff. Privately, he was often described as quirky or odd in terms of his coaching style.
Wilson had tweeted earlier in the week that he was surprised that Baltimore hadn’t sent Zorn to the Senior Bowl. I guess that explains why…
This guys "don't fit in" yet find jobs within hours of being let go by the Ravens. Heard an interesting take on the reason Cam was not fired. Seems he had one more year and $2 million owed to him on a contract. Biscuit didn't want to fire him and still have to pay him. A little advice, Biscuit…if that's the case, don't extend Harbaugh any longer than an extra year. While he's a great "community organizer" and PR guy, he's not much of a coach.
So Harbaugh comes out last week and says the coaching staff will remain the same then fires Zorn, Montgomery, and Matsko. Another one of Harbaughs saying one thing and doing another… Of course, Harbaugh will not take the blame for the team but throw others under the bus…
I like the take that Harbaugh is going to get more involved in the offense next year… Why???? He's never been an offensive coach! He's a Special Teams coach whose Special Teams were not so special!
But I do see now that alot of Baltimore writers, radio personalities and fans are starting to realize that Harbaugh is nothing but a phony…
Look, I've liked and disliked alot of Baltimore coaches/managers, both football and baseball but I have to say that from day 1 I've never trusted Harbaugh and it seems like alot of others are starting to see the light…
FIRE HARBAUGH!
This was a dumb hire from the get to.
You hire a west coast offense guy to coach your QB in a Air Coryell system?
Harbaugh actually admitted that Zorn was learning the offense on the fly this season while also coaching Flacco.
Brilliant!
Mark, 2488 and MGW – I happened upon this site looking for Caps info and somehow saw the amount of crap you guys post. Did you all get dumped by your girlfriends? Or maybe you're still pissed your living in your moms basements. Every story has some stupid comment by one of you guys and most likely all of you. Grow up and get real.
Ouch…
Dan,
2488, Mark, and I RUN this blog. We are like the Jersey Shore crew of this blog…There’s “Marky” Mark, “Snooky” 488, and well, me…they call me “The Agenda”.
Not sure about Marky Mark, but 2488 and I do not have girlfriends, but we are looking. We hang out at the food court at the mega plex, but 2488’s Star Trek shirt scares off the ladies. Once my acne clears up, my mom says I’m the best French kisser, ever!
Hey, and if you’ve never lived in the basement, it’s really quite private! My mom still has no idea about my Playboy collection!
Once my acne clears up, my mom says I'm the best French kisser, ever!
Hey MGW, where are you from? West Virginia?
Dan, this was the best comment on here in months.
Et Tu Fei Dan… I must 1st apologize for any spelling errors in this post as my Mom won't let me turn the lights on in the basement after 8pm so I turned on my Lava Lamp.
My buddy "The Agenda" paged me on our "Ninja Turtles" Walkie Talkies and said you were mad that your "partner" broke up with you and you were taking it out on us. Look Dan, it must be hard for you being a "Drag Queen" Bro, but pulling an all-nighter with 5 "lit up" Cambodians is not the answer.
Look Dan, "The Agenda" and I know you envy us but your going to have to live with being pathetic, desperate, ugly and hopeless… Seriously… Why would you comment about us unless you are envious?
So stop being pathetic, desperate, ugly and hopeless… You got alot going for you Danny Boy… Like you said, you like blowing bubbles, whispers and your "Jumpy Jump"… Thats alot Dude and I know there are others that are envious of you….
Look, let me tell you something Dan… Chapter 9 of "The Agenda's" and my life is done… over, history. Just like that, our journey is over and we are on our way back to the world of the living, smiling, regular people… Our road has been paved with jackasses, backstabbers, and just plain losers like you Dan… but memories were made, allies were had, circus freaks were toppled, and the truth was discovered…
And you know what Daniel? "The Agenda's" Mom is also a great French Kisser… I was quite surprised…
Now while your out looking for your wife, I’m goina go get drunk and watch porn till my eyes bleed…
But let me ask you something first, "If a Mime falls in the woods can you hear him?"
Hey! There's our other buddy Dan who you didn't talk about, "BM1958"… Now there's a Hoss you don't want to wrangle with!
BM1958 will always be known as the nut job who opened fire on a couple of sequined, cape-wearing magicians.
Your right 2488, I hate those guys.
Off the subject, but today is the 10th anniversary of the Ravens winning Super Bowl 35 over the Giants 34-7, and there was not one story, or even a sentence mentioning that fact in the Baltimore Sun. As a Steeler fan, you guys had a great year, and we bring out the best of each other in our matchups. The Steelers are going to have their hands full against the Packers, a week from Sunday. I know this will be another nail biting game.
You ever think Canadian Steeler Fan that you always write alot but never really say anything?
MGW aka "The Agenda" talks with you but thats because he is "The Agenda"… He has a certain pinache to him that people gravitate to…
I'm proud to have "The Agenda's" flank… He doesn't let many people into his "Circle of Trust"… There's only a few, like myself, BM1958, Zach, Marky Mark (whom I'm at peace with) and Will-O… Pole is on the precipice of "The Agenda's" "Circle of Trust" but just can't cross that line because he sometimes comes across as a loon…
Ha, ha…as a contributing writer for' Bleacher Report', I actually do write a lot (notice the spacing) and I haven't actually heard from MGW recently, panache or not (note spelling). But, I do like yanking your collective chains in Baltimore. I didn't realize that I had to be a member of the "Jersey Shore" club in order to contribute to this blog. Isn't that the whole purpose of a blog: to encourage dialogue??
Sadler – Thought you were on our side? Thought we were all brothers?
Its like the motorcycle creed, no matter what type of bike you have we are all "Brothers" and defend each other no matter what. Why do you think you see bikers who pass another biker going the other way stick out their hand to acknowledge the other. Bikers stick together and so should we…
I got my "Biker Brothers", just want to make sure I got my "BSR Brothers". I consider you a "BSR Brother" just like I do "The Agenda", BM1956, Pole, Bruz, Marky Mark, Zach, Pilson and Will-O but you always go against me and "The Agenda"… Why?
Dude, you know i love you, but I love it when people give you hell.
CSF… Your now correcting spelling? You basically did what I said in my previous post. You write alot but don't really say anything.
Its not the "Jersey Shore" club… Its the "Bay Area" club… And "The Agenda" has even had "Snooki", "J-WOWW", "Diamond-D", "LowKey", "Sparkles", "Klimax", "FogHorn", "Muck-Um Singh", "Dyce Shuter", "Ryce-Patti", "Corky" and "Sweet16" contact him to do photo shoots with them…
Now, since I have his flank, I have been privy to these requests and have also been asked to entertain with "The Agenda". Problem is, I don't have a cool name like "The Agenda". Couple of the "Bay Area" groupies have tossed out a few for me, like "The Teez", "Krop Dustyr", "The Specialist", "The Flayme", "Special-T", "Munee" and "BaddAss"…
2488- I know that I am weighing in late, but I have often heard you referred to on the lady's room wall (the last time I was there) as "Male Envy", not sure that I want to know why. You see I perform custodial side jobs to supplement my income, but I suppose that's dialogue for another segment. To round out the Bay Area cast of characters- the Agenda, Marky Mark, BM, Wacky Zach and Male Envy. Soon to be announced honorary member CS because in the words of Bobby M that's what she is.
So a day or so after Flacco's agent released a statement basically saying Flacco was fine with the Zorn move (even though I heard he wasn't), we get this:
When asked on Saturday how he felt about the firing of QBs coach Jim Zorn, Joe Flacco responded, "I'm not happy about it and they know I'm not happy. I don't think it was a good decision."
And there's more. "I feel a little bit like I'm being attacked. Usually when you fire a position coach it's because you're not happy with how that position did. I guess Cam [OC Cam Cameron] is going to take on more of a role in the quarterback room, he's going to have his influence." Flacco's agent released a statement Friday that said Flacco knew that the decision was in the best interest of the organization, so these new comments are a complete 180. The increased relationship between Flacco and Cameron isn't off to a good start. Jan. 29 – 2:52 pm et
Sounds like that "communication" issue hasn't exactly been resolved.
Strike up the "Ringing Brothers" music. Biscotti's circus is in town with the Head Clown, Harbo.
This is what drives me crazy with Biscuit. He knows things are imploding, but he'll just hope "his guy" can get things right – learning on the fly with a championship caliber club – and somehow capture "lightning in a bottle" making Biscuit look like the smartest guy in the room.
And don't tell me about his "playoff wins". He's got 4 and two of them came in his first year when the players were out to prove Billick was NOT the guy.
Even The Agenda could win 12 games with this team.
I'm sensing a 2 year extension for Harbo. Makes things nice and neat on the outside – for the unwitting fans – and allows him to only have to suffer for a few more years hoping Harbo gets it right.
Another interesting tidbit…players like Flacco and McClain are coming out in defense of Jim Zorn, love him or hate him.
Anybody had anything good to say about Cameron? Anyone, anyone?
Harbo kept his buddy and made the easy choices to remove his RBs coach, his O-line coach, and his QB coach.
What a guy!
Wow. Aaron Wilson got the scoop by talking with Flacco at the polar bear plunge.
More quotes. Sounds like he caught Flacco in a moment where all filters were off.
"I also feel like a little bit like I'm being attacked," Flacco said. "You fire the quarterback coach. Usually when your fire a position coach, it's because you're not really happy with how that position did. And when I look back on my season and our season as a team, I mean, we won 13 games. I felt like I had a pretty good year and you're firing the quarterback coach? t's kind of an attack on me, I feel like.
"You know, it is what it is. It's not that big of a deal for me to feel like it. I'm not happy about it. They know that I'm not happy about it. It's not news to them. They know I'm not happy about it, and my feelings aren't going to change. I'm not going to be happy about it, for a long time. This year will be what it is. We're going to be successful this year. I would have just liked him to be a part of it. He would have liked to be a part of it. And I think it would have been good for him to be a part of it."
Flacco wasn't shy about delivering his message today during the annual Polar Bear Plunge at Sandy Point State Park.
"I'm disappointed and they know I'm disappointed," Flacco said. "I don't think it was a good decision, and they know that. I expressed that throughout the whole time it was going on, I expressed how much I didn't think it would be good for us. My opinion isn't going to change.
"I think Jim was a great coach, I think he was great for our team. I think he was great for me. That's how I feel about it."
Flacco denied the existence of communication issues due to Zorn's background in the West Coast offense and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron being a Don Coryell disciple.
"No, not really," Flacco said. "I think Jim was a great coach."
Marky Mark, agree with the communication issue but according to Harbaugh he's going to correct that by becoming more involved in the offense next year. Harbaugh thinks that as a past "Special Teams Coordinator" he will become involved and correct the offense as well as the offensive communication more so than a career Offensive coordinator (Cameron) and another former Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach/Former QB (Zorn).
More and more Harbaugh shows he's in over his head as well as his arrogance and his "throw everyone under the bus" attitude…
No one can tell me that Oz and Bisciotti don't see thru Harbaughs garbage but they are leary of getting rid of him vis-a-vis Angelos firing Davey Johnson…
Sadler, I know you enjoy it but "The Agenda" and I will get you to cross over to our way of thinking… Your slowly doing it now without realizing it…
You can see things going against Harbaugh so fast… It started slow when he got here but its been picking up as of late…
You had the veterans against him that very first Training Camp…
When was the last time you heard a veteran speak highly of Harbaugh…
Raven players talk about playing for Rex and speak highly of him…
Raven players are praising Zorn and other coaches let go by Harbaugh…
Harbaughs communication is being questioned…
And there's other issues…
Has anyone ever noticed that Harbaugh will not bring in any coaches that may be a threat to him? Or even see if they are interested in coming to the Ravens? Harbs only brings in some obscure coach or his Fathers buddy…
Mattison,
Pagano (I'm not saying anything against Pagano but Harbs didn't even go looking for an established D-Coordinator),
Teryl Austin (New secondary coach… Who has heard of this guy?),
Andy Moeller (Was never in the NFL as a coach until Harbs got him),
Roy Anderson (Worked in the Ravens personnel department until Harbs brought him into coaching last year),
Jason Brooks (Was hired by Harbs after coaching Norwich University, yes Norwich)
Continued from above…
And there are others… I'm not saying anything bad about these coaches just pointing out that Harbs has surrounded himself with obscure guys who aren't threatening him.
When has Harbs looked at big name coaches to hire? And I'm just mentioning a few that are good coaches that he could have looked into. Not saying we should have hired them if we could, just check to see if they could help the Ravens.
