Former Ravens running back and Ring of Honor candidate Jamal Lewis was arrested for child abandonment charges in Atlanta.
According to Alexis Stevens at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Lewis was charged and booked into the Clayton County jail shortly after 11 PM for allegedly failing to pay child support. He spent less than two hours in jail before he was released.
Four months ago, Lewis filed for bankruptcy, listing $14.5 million in assets and $10.6 million in debts.
The Ravens plan to induct Lewis into their Ring of Honor on September 27 against the Cleveland Browns.
Lewis is/was scheduled to sign autographs at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Baltimore on Friday. “As of right now, what we know is that he has been released and he we have not heard anything from him,” event organizer Ray Schulte told the Baltimore Sun’s Jeff Zrebiec. “If he is going to cancel, he has not done so yet.”
Maybe the name should be changed to “ring of outstanding play”. Honor has a connection with high character which I don’t believe the subject of this piece has. At least he got out of jail in time to sign autographs.
Agreed Pole. I’m sure the politically astute Ravens are having a fit having just announced him for the ring of honor and now this little news nugget breaks.
Doesn’t belong in the Ring of Honor now. Was a great player for the Ravens but if outside personal actions are nailing quite a few athletes now then Lewis shouldn’t be excluded…
If Jamal Lewis can’t get in then Ray Lewis shouldn’t either. He was found guilty of obstruction of justice in that Atlanta stabbing.
” WELL THAT’S DIFFERENT RALPH. THATS RAY LEWIS. IT DOESN’T MATTER BECAUSE HE’S REALLY REALLY GOOD'”
Ralph… Really? Ray didn’t kill anyone, Ray isn’t a deadbeat dad, Ray isn’t a wife beater… Obstruction and a deadbeat dad are two different things…
I know what your getting at and I agree to an extent but if every player was not in any HOF for a criminal offense no matter how small then nobody would be in it. I think the bigger, eggregious offenses should eliminate players from any HOF.
Smoking a joint should not eliminate you from any HOF. Dealing drugs should eliminate you.
Obstructing an investigation should not eliminate you from any HOF. Murdering someone should eliminate you.
Hope you understand the point I’m making…
Intim, T. Uh, I believe its been published in these spaces that Ray has seven children from some number of different Mothers…I wonder, just wonder, how that whole “Quality time with Dad” thing is working out? I’m just sayin’…Note: Ol’ Bruz himself is unlikely to win Father of the Year awards… 🙂
I said it once and I will say it again,,,,,,,,,,if you have four million more dollars in assets than your liabilities , you are not bankrupt,,,,,,,,,,,what is going on here?
