Drafted as the Ravens third overall pick in 2010 (70th overall pick) Ed Dickson should provide security at the tight end position behind Todd Heap. Dickson was noted as a speedy and athletic tight end that proved to be a spark in the middle of the field for the Oregon Ducks. He is often compared to play the position like an Antonio Gates does, and is a large enough player to put a bruising on linebackers with the speed of defensive backs.

Dickson joins the Ravens with a slew of honors from the Pac-10 and Oregon. He was a first-team All-Pac-10 player in 2009, was a semi-finalist for the John Mackey Award (nation’s best tight end) and played every game for the Ducks for three consecutive seasons.

2010 outlook: John Harbaugh has stressed that rookies will pay their dues in special teams and Dickson is no exception. He recorded 5 special teams tackles last season and was even used to punt in Oregon (averaging 45 yards a punt). The Ravens will be looking to groom Dickson to take over for a battered Todd Heap who enters his 10th season in the NFL.
