Analysis: The Ravens drafted Gooden in the third round of the 2008 draft hoping he could eventually replace either Ray Lewis or the now departed Bart Scott. Gooden’s rookie season was ended by an injury just four games and 2009 he played in 12 games, but was replaced by Dannell Ellerbe in the last quarter of the season, again because he couldn’t stay healthy.

Gooden is a quick linebacker that should be able to play on the inside. He even looked good against the Panthers’ third-string offense in Thursday’s preseason game.

2010 Outlook: Gooden again has a chance to start alongside Lewis if he can stay healthy. For now, Gooden is a back up linebacker behind both Ellerbe and Lewis, possibly even Jameel McClain. He will be a contributor on special teams and help the defense when he gets on the field. Gooden is a skilled player, he just needs to stay healthy.
