Yikes.
From ESPN Stats and Info comes a scary, but not surprising, tidbit of information about Baltimore Ravens running backs Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce.
Ray Rice (2.7) and Bernard Pierce (2.7) have the 2nd and 3rd worst yards per rush averages among qualified NFL RBs this season.
— ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) November 5, 2013
Rice is on pace for 518 yards this season. He’s rushed for 259 on 97 attempts in 2013.
Pierce is on pace for 460 yards. He’s totaled 230 over 85 carries this season.
So what’s the problem? Bad offensive line? Injured running backs? A declining skill set?
Perhaps it’s the perfect storm in Baltimore.
5-6 years, that’s the life span of an NFL running back. Not an opinion, but a fact – look it up.
They gave Rice a “Legacy Contract” and now they will pay for it through salary cap reprecussions.
They knew Pierce wasn’t the answer and couldn’t be a starter or they wouldn’t have even attempted to re-sign Rice.
You can’t give NFL running backs “thank you” contracts and expect to not pay the price. This has Steve Bisciotti and his corporate mentality written all over it. Ozzie knows the NFL and knows the life expectancy of running backs and knows the salary cap. Steve made the call on this one.
Stick to baseball
Great piece, Captain. Why the hate, “Shabby”?
