UPDATE: Just spoke with Brian Bassett of The Jets Blog and he now doubts the deal will happen. Mason will have to be willing to take less money.
Pending a physical, Rex Ryan and the New York Jets are expected to sign former Ravens receiver Derrick Mason. TheJetsBlog.com’s Lisa Zimmerman reported the news on Wednesday night as Mason is expected to visit the team on Thursday morning.
Mason, 37, was released last week by the Ravens in order to to save the Ravens $4.5 million in salary cap room. He is the team’s all time leader in receptions (471) and receiving yards (5,777).
The news of Mason’s official departure from Baltimore comes just as the Ravens are expected to sign wide receiver Malcom Floyd formerly of the Chargers.
