Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus is reporting that Orioles pitcher Brad Bergesen has been claimed by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Baltimore designated Bergesen for assignment on Wednesday after purchasing his contract before Tuesday night’s game.
“It’s been a weird year for me,” Bergesen told MASNSports.com’s Roch Kubatko.
“Obviously, they’ve been calling tons of people up, so I knew there was always that possibility. But I was surprised when I did get the call because it came so late at night and I left the next morning, and I’m surprised that I got designated today [Wednesday], just for the fact that the bullpen has been used so much and I thought I might at least get a chance last night or today, that maybe they’d get some use out of me and then maybe make a move.”
The Orioles could have optioned Bergesen back down to Norfolk, but they removed him from their 40-man roster which left an open spot.
I guess The Intimidator thinks the Diamondbacks added Bergesen to help them get to the post season.
