For the last three years, Paul Ricci has been the strength and conditioning coach for the Maryland basketball team. However, he is stepping down and taking a similar position at Texas Tech. He was credited with improving strength, flexibility, stamina, and conditioning. His workouts both pre and post game stressed the full range of on court basketball movements and it also helped reduce the injury rate of the Maryland players. He spearheaded a private fundraising effort of $550,000 for a workout facility specifically for Maryland basketball players set to open this year.
He enjoyed the opportunity to work with the Maryland players and was extremely grateful to Gary Williams to allow him to use his methods some of which were new and cutting edge. With Mark Turgeon bringing in his new staff, he was not reporting directly to the head coach which he felt would not give him the latitude needed and impede on player’s progress.
